This actually does not require attendance in the meeting.  Some “rescuers” who patrol the internet, can convince the consumer to apply for a low-interest mortgage online or over the phone. If the consumer falls for this loan scam, the consumer starts faxing documents and sending wire transfer payments to the phony company without even meeting the scammers or phony lenders.

Foreclosure scams targets consumers who are about to lose their homes to foreclosure. The scammers often identify themselves as “foreclosure rescuers,” whose ultimate goal is to get the consumer to sign away the house and/or at least get some money out of the process, leaving consumers penniless and homeless.

How to Avoid Foreclosure Scams & What to Do if You Are a Victim

If the consumer is facing foreclosure, he/she must be wary of the following personalities:
•    People that go door to door, send mail, or call to over their services. Legitimate foreclosure agencies have offices and do not send agents to seek out customers.
•    Claims quick and easy fix. Foreclosures are never quick and easy.
•    Claims government affiliation.
